Malmö NVC Community #19 – Authenticity

Wednesday 26 October 2022 · 18:30–21:00

STPLN, 3 Stapelbäddsgatan, Malmö, Skåne län, 211 75, Sweden

About the workshop

As children, our bodies and faces showed — unfiltered — what was going on inside us. Somewhere along the way we met messages we came to interpret as we’re not okay.

We learned that what goes on inside us can be ugly, gross, bad, and needs to be hidden. To protect ourselves we started playing social games. We started putting on a front, and in some sense becoming less authentic to navigate social situations.

The dilemma is that when we do this, being with people costs energy when it could have been so nourishing. We’re also deprived of high-quality connection, which is a vital need. But how do we dare to show ourselves, given how vulnerable it is?

This evening we’ll explore vulnerability in small steps, and at a manageable level of difficulty practise authenticity. Our bodies can in this way get a new experience that may later help us remember to associate authenticity with connection.

We’ll do this gently, without “steamrolling” or revolting against the fear. Instead we need to embrace our fear and see how it helps us. The workshop builds on insights from Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and Lee Glickstein’s Speaking Circles, and is especially well-suited if you want, for example, to safely work with your fear of speaking in front of groups.

Vegan and gluten-free fika will be available. Cost: voluntary contribution, 0–300 SEK. Prerequisites: none!
