Malmö NVC Community #21 – Forgiveness

Wednesday 14 December 2022 · 18:30–21:00

STPLN, 3 Stapelbäddsgatan, Malmö, Skåne län, 211 75, Sweden

About the workshop

We have a word in our vocabulary — sorry. The word has a fine intention: when we say it, it means we’re taking the blame, we acknowledge that we did wrong, perhaps that we feel ashamed, regret, and ask for a kind of “pardon”.

If we are then forgiven, we can all move on.

The dilemma with “sorry” in its original form is that it is a social ritual that doesn’t really repair anything. Hearing “sorry” can of course make a big difference. But that the word is said is not the same thing as having gone through a process that repairs the harm. The habitual “sorry” declares that we are now in a new place, but does, in other words, surprisingly little to actually move us there.

So how do we do that? How do we repair things when we’ve made a mess, in a way that leads to learning for the one who caused the harm, and healing for the one who was harmed?

That’s what this evening will be about. Your purpose for coming might be:

  • You want to deepen your understanding of NVC
  • You want help and support to repair your own mistakes with someone else
  • You want ideas for how to help someone else repair their mistakes towards you
  • You want to practise NVC in general
  • The evening starts with theory and continues with role-play exercises. Vegan and gluten-free fika will be available. We start on time, so please come a few minutes early.
