Introduction to Nonviolent Communication (NVC)
In this course you’ll get insights, skills and tools that contribute to growth in yourself and your relationships, in private and at work. The course is especially useful if you want to develop, in one way or another, in how you handle people.
The course is given in collaboration with the study association Sensus in Malmö.
Content
You’ll learn about
- the difference between observations and interpretations, feelings and thoughts, needs and strategies, requests and demands
- insights from the field of adult development
- what empathy is, and how it differs from sympathy
- a new way of looking at honesty, and what function it serves
- the difference between needs-based and dominance-based systems
- and more
You’ll practise
- communicating more clearly
- hearing others’ feedback in ways that don’t harm you
- turning self-criticism into learning and growth
- looking at events and processes in ways that create connection, dynamism and growth
- handling conflict in ways that help you and your relationships grow
- and more
Prerequisites
None. But you’ll get more out of the course if you’ve read Marshall Rosenberg’s book Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life.

About the course leader
Ricardo Guillén has given some 30 NVC courses since 2013. He has completed seven year-long programs in Nonviolent Communication, three of them as an assistant. In his daily work, Ricardo uses NVC as a mediator in criminal cases.
